Summit Overview

“A concerted effort towards rebuilding a nation and unleashing Sri Lanka’s potential”

The EU Sri Lanka Business Summit, the first ever initiative of its kind to take place in Sri Lanka is a combined effort in restoring economic sustainability. The key theme of the summit will be “A concerted effort towards rebuilding a nation and unleashing Sri Lanka’s potential”. The summit endeavours to bring individuals from all spheres such as the GOSL, the International donor community, with added focus on the European community and the Sri Lankan private sector in sharing knowledge and ascertaining the road ahead. The summit will further strive to increase Private sector awareness on the potential commercial, trade and investment opportunities that would be inevitable with the end of the civil war. In keeping with the Governments’ broad economic policy the summit will mainly focus on steering investment to disadvantaged areas such as the North & Eastern Province; however will not be limited to these areas but further expanded to focus on Re-building Sri Lanka as One Nation.  In keeping with the above the key objectives of the summit will be as follows:

  • A platform for identification of GOSL key constraints and identification of priority projects and potential avenues of funding and financing.
  • To identify key intra- and inter- regional requirement in Sri Lanka and promotion of multi-lateral co-operation between international investors, business practitioners and policy makers. 
  • To provide a critical assessment of current trade and investment environment in Sri Lanka.
  • Accordingly to ascertain particular trade barriers and policy issues that confront the European private sector in the Sri Lankan market place,
  • Ascertain and evaluate the need for capacity building and trade-related technical assistance for strengthening partnerships between Sri Lanka & the European Union.
  • Showcase key development initiatives to the private & public sectors of the many commercial opportunities,
  •  A platform for European and Sri Lanka public and private sector, business leaders, policy makers, academics to share ideas
  • A platform for European and Sri Lanka public and private sector, business leaders, policy makers, academics to enhance and develop support  and consent in developing innovative and sustainable business relationships.
  • Development of a detailed Summit Report and presentation to the GOSL of Sri Lanka for development of action plan.
